New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD shared video stills Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife just had a newborn.

“The first thing I thought about, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as a key part of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
